The Biggest Myth About Life Insurance

There are many misconceptions about life insurance, the biggest myth about life insurance is that you don’t need it if you’re single. There are various situations where getting individual life insurance as a single person could be good idea. For example, you may have children from a past relationship that you want to provide financial protection for should you pass away. You may have other family members that depend on you financially. If you own a property that you would like to leave to a loved one if you were to die, life insurance could cover the cost of your mortgage if you pass away while covered.

The Biggest Myth About Life Insurance

The Biggest Myth About Life Insurance

How do I know if I need Life Insurance?

Now we have established that not needing life insurance if you’re single is the biggest myth about life insurance, how do you know which life insurance is for you?

The following questions are a good place to start if you’re unsure:

  • Is anyone financially dependent on you?
  • Do you have any children you want to leave money to?
  • How much money do you owe, to a mortgage and other lenders?
  • Could your funeral costs be covered or do you want to leave money for it?
  • Would you like to leave money to a charity or other organisation when you die?

These questions should give you an idea about whether life insurance is right for you. Of course it’s not the only insurance policy you could buy.

There are also products like critical illness cover, which would provide money if you were diagnosed with a specific illness. Or income protection insurance, which could cover your income if you weren’t able to work. These policies might arguably be more important to you if you’re single, as you might not have another income to fall back on if you’re unable to work.

Why You Need Life Insurance

It’s worth considering life insurance if you have people who depend on you financially, such as:

  • a partner who relies on your income or your contribution to the household
  • children or young dependents

  • other dependents who rely on you as a caregiver

However, if you’re asking yourself, ‘is Life Insurance necessary for a single person?’ and the person in question has absolutely nobody depending on them, then you might want to look to the future. Few single people wish to remain so forever, and although this generation is leaving marriage and kids until later and later in life, it’s still something many aspire to.

Why You Need Life Insurance- Top Reasons

Buying a new home

If you die before your mortgage is repaid, then the responsibility to complete payments falls to someone you love. Life insurance enables you to be proactive about ensuring those you care for can meet those financial commitments after you’ve gone.

Just married

If you’ve recently become engaged or married and are joining families and assets, it can make life easier to know you are both covered if one of you were to die. Life insurance enables you to make financial contributions to your partner’s well-being after you’ve departed – which is a beautiful way to honour your marriage vows.

Having a baby

The cost of raising a child is expensive, even before factoring in considerations like private education and university contributions. There are policies available that run until your child reaches maturity – and after they’re 18, it’s up to you what “maturity” means.

Planning for a funeral

According to British Seniors Funeral Report 2021, between 2016-2021 the average cost of a funeral was around £5,631. Over 50s policies as well as level and increasing term policies can be used to contribute towards funeral payments.

What will Life Insurance look like in the future?

We’re Life Insurances UK, and in this blog we’ll tackle the question ‘What will Life Insurance look like in the future?’ . With over 15 years of experience, our insurance advisors are passionate about keeping you and your family safe. We do this by ensuring you have the correct insurance cover.

Did you know that 14% of Brits aged 25 to 44 have never heard of life insurance?

It comes at no surprise when 88% of Brits feel uncomfortable about their financial literacy. In a recent survey, 80% of the failed answers fell within retirement. So what does this tell us about society today?

What is Life Insurance? – What will Life Insurance look like in the future?

There are different types of life insurance policies available Sometimes it can be difficult to determine which one is right for you. There are a number of different life insurance policies available. Each one has its own benefits and drawbacks. Here is a brief overview of the different types of life insurance policies available:

Term life insurance:

Term life insurance is the most basic type of life insurance policy. It covers you for a specific period of time (usually 10-30 years). If you die during this period, your beneficiaries will receive a death benefit. Term life insurance is relatively cheap. Therefore, it is a good option for people who don’t need life insurance for a long period of time.

Permanent life insurance:

Permanent life insurance is a more expensive option than term life insurance. However, it provides lifelong coverage. It also includes a savings component, which can be used to provide a death benefit. Alternatively, it can pay out premiums in the event of your death. Permanent life insurance is a good option for people who want to be sure that their loved ones are taken care of financially in the event of their death.

Universal life insurance:

Universal life insurance is another type of permanent life insurance. It offers flexibility in terms of how much coverage you need and how long you need it for. It also has a cash value component, which can be used to pay premiums or to provide a death benefit. Universal life insurance is a good option for people who want more flexibility than what is provided by permanent life insurance.

Whole life insurance:

Whole life insurance is a type of permanent life insurance that covers you for your entire life. It also has a cash value component, which can be used to pay premiums or to provide a death benefit. Whole life insurance is a good option for people who want the security of knowing that their loved ones will be taken care of financially in the event of their death.

What will Life Insurance look like in the future?

If we don’t figure out a way to educate people on how to protect themselves when life happens, a lot of people will be severely impacted. If a married spouse with a mortgage suddenly passed away with no life insurance in place, the burden of the mortgage is then left to the widow. This could add to the pressure of funeral costs and other commitments.

Last Friday our team celebrated Christmas Jumper Day and donated £500 to the important cause. We had a fantastic day celebrating a year of hard work through delicious food and drink, all while supporting those who are less fortunate this Christmas.

Christmas Jumper Day is held on December 10 every year by Save the Children in an end of year drive to help children across the globe.

Office workers and school pupils will be among the people taking part by wearing their silliest jumper for the occasion.

Since its launch in 2012, the event has raised more than £27 million.

The Save the Children Fund, commonly known as Save the Children, was established in the United Kingdom in 1919 to improve the lives of children through better education, health care, and economic opportunities, as well as providing emergency aid in natural disasters, war, and other conflicts.

As much as Christmas is a time to celebrate love with our family and friends, it’s also important that we spread a little love elsewhere.

This week we had the honour of being invited to Hedges Law’s first in person event for two years: a wreath-making masterclass with Simon Lycett, celebrity florist.

The event was hosted in the beautiful Jam Factory in Oxford and was full of inspirational women in business. On arrival, we were each provided with a box full of wreath making goodies and given a wreath making masterclass from the fantastic Simon Lycett. Simon is known for his role as a judge on the vibrant competition series ‘Full Bloom’. As well as this, Simon frequently does work for the royals and many other prominent celebrities. Whilst demonstrating the process of wreath making, Simon chatted to us and answered questions about his career in floristry.

Then it was our turn to give it a try! After a couple of failed attempts we got into the swing of it, and, fuelled by prosecco and baked treats our Christmas wreaths began to come to life.

The event really got us in the Christmas spirit and it was so lovely to spend the day with such inspirational women. Plus, we all left with a gorgeous wreath to put on our front door. Thank you so much to Hedges for hosting such a wonderful event, it was an honour to be there.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer’s Autumn Spending Review and Budget provided some good news for property agents but leaves a lot to be desired.

The UK Government missed a golden opportunity to reshape an outdated Stamp Duty Land Tax system to reflect rising house prices and remove some of the market distortions it causes.

It was further disappointing to see there is no reform of the court system to deal with the volume of possession hearings – an estimated 62,000 just in England and Wales alone – or proper funding for landlords so that calls for energy-efficiency improvements on an older private-rented stock are financially viable, and not just hot air.

A rise in the national living wage is good in principle but with inflation expected to top 4 per cent by the end of the year, higher household bills from the on-going energy crisis, a cost-of-living squeeze, and the cut to Universal Credit, it is unlikely to provide the boost to incomes that’s needed.

The £65m funding for those in rental debt provides some support but the devil is in the detail. Almost four million low-income households are in arrears with their household bills, yet this money will be targeted at those who are most at risk of homelessness, excluding a significant number of others from help.

A £1.8bn fund for brownfield homes and £11.5bn for 180,000 affordable homes is welcome, but the latter is not new money and only 32,000 of those homes will be social rented housing – a mere third of what is needed which is simply not enough when council waiting lists are predicted to almost double to 2.1 million by next year.

The Chancellor announced £5 billion to remove dangerous cladding from high rise buildings, partially funded by the Residential Property Developers Tax to be levied on developers with profits over £25 million at a rate of four per cent.

Business rate relief

To support local high streets, a new temporary business rates relief in England is being introduced for eligible retail, hospitality, and leisure properties for 2022-23. Over 90 per cent of those eligible businesses will receive at least 50 per cent off their business rates bills in 2022-23.

Some words from Michael Hughes NAEA Propertymark, Commercial Board Member:

“The commercial property market should welcome the Chancellor’s comments relating to business rates announced in today’s Autumn Budget.

Most retail, hospitality, and leisure businesses are still fighting hard to get back on an even keel following the COVID-19 pandemic and so the certainty of continued business rates relief for these sectors is a great help. This will aid those business owners and investors looking to prepare their properties for sale and give purchasers the confidence to progress with acquisitions.

The introduction of three yearly business rate revaluation in 2023 will help to flatten the peaks and troughs that the previous valuation time scale created.

The business rates exemptions for green property improvements will benefit and enhance the quality of business property stock at a time where the environmental benefits of a premises are seen as crucial to their sustainability by much of the financial industry.

Finding a way to taper the benefits of all these announcements following 2023 may be difficult, but the Chancellor has given us hope for the growth in the commercial property market with this budget.”

  • At the start of the pandemic, more than 78 per cent of those who lost their jobs were women and two-thirds were between the ages of 18 and 34, according to PWC.
  • 60 per cent of young women are fearful for their future due to the pandemic, with more than half saying that finding a job “now seems impossible
  • The Office of National Statistics data shows that there are currently 418,000 young women not in education, employment or training
